Discovering Excellence: An Interview with Our Outstanding Production Manager Yiannis Mamekas.

What are the most significant achievements during your career?

Maximizing the efficiency of the production process at Cosmos Aluminium, pushing the limits of the unit’s capacity, producing high-quality products, and supporting the sales department that played a crucial role in unlocking new investments in production infrastructure.

In light of these accomplishments, I take great pride in my role as both a leader and team member, overseeing the successful installation and operation of:
• 2 new extrusion lines (now operating 4 extrusion lines in total),
• 2 fully automated aluminum profile warehouses,
• a new packaging line, added to the existing two,
• and a state-of-the-art raw material casting facility from recycled aluminum.

Utilizing the above, I can also consider the creation of new job positions resulting from these investments as an achievement. I am proud that through my work, I contribute to creating employment opportunities and the growth of my fellow colleagues.

What Industry 4.0 technology excites you the most?

One Industry 4.0 technology that truly fascinates me is the Internet of Things (IoT).
The ability to connect all sorts of devices, machinery, vehicles, and more with the ultimate goal of controlling them remotely from a computer or mobile device anywhere in the world represents a cutting-edge technological advancement.
When considering the myriad benefits that can arise, such as faster decision-making, resource and time savings, increased flexibility, higher efficiency and productivity, real-time customer order updates, and so much more, I undoubtedly believe that it opens up numerous new horizons for our future

What advice would you give to your younger self?

To my younger self, I would offer the advice never to stop working passionately towards becoming better every day in whatever chosen path, no matter the challenges encountered.

Furthermore, I would emphasize that while at some point, they may teach you that the three essential elements of a manufacturing unit are machines, products/materials, and people, what they might fail to mention is a significant difference between people and the other two lies in the fact that people have souls and dreams.”

If you weren’t in the field of manufacturing, what would be your dream job?

I feel fortunate as I am one of those who became what they dreamed of at the age of 8. Mechanical engineering and administrative science captured my interest from a very young age, and eventually, I managed to combine both to try to contribute the best of my abilities to our society.
